Janet to Release Second Best-of Album
A new Janet Jackson greatest hits album, “Number Ones,” will hit U.S. stores November 17. The 34 track collection on A&M/UMe includes 33 of Jackson’s hits plus one new track, “Make Me,” produced by Jackson and Rodney Jerkins. The set includes all 10 of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles and her 16 toppers on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. According to A&M/UMe, Jackson has sold 65 million albums worldwide. “Number Ones” will be the singer’s second best-of package in the U.S., following 1995’s “Design of a Decade 1986/1996.” That effort peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and has sold 2.4 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. Morehouse ‘Dress Code’ Receives Mixed Reviews
Young men of Morehouse, pull up your pants, remove your do-rags and and remove your shades and hats when you enter a building. Thanks to a new policy on the campus of Morehouse College, they are no longer permissible. he new policy is an effort to “get back to the legacy” of Morehouse leaders, said Dr. William Bynum, vice president of the Office of Student Services. “We expect our young men to be Renaissance men,” said Bynum. “When people go about campus we want them to represent the college in an appropriate manner.” (Continue Reading…)

Commentary: Blackface is Never Okay
Harry Connick Jr. almost got it right when he challenged the doctors who mocked the Jacksons in blackface on an Australian version of “the Gong Show.” The fact is, even Australians know better. It isn’t that they did not know that what they were doing was shocking and offensive; they just thought they could get away with it. “If they turned up looking like that in the United States,” he said on the “Hey Hey It’s Saturday” television show, “Hey, hey, there’s no more show.” In a message posted on his Web site, Connick wrote that “in the American culture, the blackface image is steeped in a negative history and considered offensive.” He also wrote, “I do not believe that the performers intended any harm.” (Continue Reading…)
