Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele on Thursday challenged some of the most prominent critics in his party to fire him or “shut up.” Responding directly to a report Thursday in The Washington Times that some top donors are bypassing the RNC to give to the Republican Governors Association and other party campaign committees and candidates because of discontent with Mr. Steele, the national chairman struck an aggressive tone. “If you don’t want me on the job, fire me. Glenn Beck: ‘African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term’
The topic of race identification on the upcoming census was brought up on Glenn Beck’s radio program this morning, and controversial statements ensued. The whole issue apparently merited discussion because three of the available boxes to check in order to identify your race are “Black,” “African-American” and “Negro.” Beck was quick to clarify: African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term. I mean, that’s not a race. Your ancestry is from Africa and now you live in America. Ok, so you were brought over — either your family was brought over through the slave trade or you were born here and your family emigrated here or whatever but that is not a race. US watchlist adds to Nigeria’s many woes
An absent president, a row over the budget, no promised reforms, no electricity for much of the time, and now its appearance on a US terror watchlist, add up to a bad New Year for African giant Nigeria. Washington’s placing of Nigeria on a 14-nation travel watchlist after a Nigerian tried to blow up a US plane could hardly have come at a worse time. The government in Abuja is under intense criticism over a perceived lack of leadership, given the continued absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua and persistent rumours over his state of health.
