Perhaps you have heard about the funny NBC Black History Month menu? Fried chicken, collard greens, corn bread, etc. etc. What a convenient night for famous black comedienne Wanda Sykes to be on the The Jay Leno Show! The Roots’ ?uestlove revealed today via Twitter that the NBC cafeteria had made the rather unfortunate choice of serving stereotypical black people food in honor of Black History Month. Senate likely to be less diverse
That historically all-white club known as the U.S. Senate is likely to lose what little diversity it has after November’s elections. Two white men will be competing for President Barack Obama’s former seat in Illinois, now held by Roland Burris, the chamber’s lone African-American. Appointed by the scandal-tainted former governor, Burris won’t be seeking a full term. In contests in Florida, Texas and North Carolina, black candidates face daunting challenges to joining the august body, from difficulty raising cash to lack of name recognition to formidable rivals. 10 from US charged with kidnapping in Haiti
The 10 Americans accused of trying to take 33 Haitian children out of the country were charged with kidnapping and criminal association Thursday and returned to jail to await trial. The Americans, most of them members of Baptist congregations from Idaho but including one Texan, Jim Allen of Amarillo, said they intended to rescue children left parentless in the Jan. 12 earthquake and take them to an orphanage across the border in the Dominican Republic. But at least two-thirds of the children, who range in age from 2 to 12, have parents who gave them away because they said the Americans promised the children a better life. (Continue Reading…)
