Who says you shouldn’t match your makeup (and nails!) to your outfit? If done correctly, this beauty rule deserves to be broken. Noisettes songstress, Shingai Shoniwa, hits a high note with her pretty-in-pink lips, shimmery eyeshadow and radiant skin. The combo screams bold, sexy and confident! The key to pulling off matchy-matchy flawlessly? Keep your cheeks subtle and your shadow sheer. Here’s how you can get the look.
Eye: Urban Decay’s Sustainable Shadow Box: Shades – “Midnight Cowboy Rides Again” (all over lid), “Twice Baked” (outer corner/crease), “Uzi” (inner corner), “Oil Slick” (upper lash line), $36, Ulta.
Lips: Maybelline’s Color Sensational in “Pink Me Up (#045)”, $6, Target.
Cheeks: M.A.C’s Sheertone Shimmer Blush in “Sweet as Cocoa”, $22, Nordstrom.
Nails: Ginger + Liz Colour Collection Hot N’ Bothered, $12, gingerandliz.com.
Step 1 (The Prep): Begin by prepping the skin with your moisturizer of choice. Apply primer to eyelids and skin, and a tad bit of balm to the lips
Step 2 (The Eyes):
a. Apply a sheer layer “Midnight Cowboy Rides Again” to the entire lid, from lash line to brow.
b. Blend “Twice Baked” into the outer corner of the eyes in a sideways “v” shape, similar to this: < >… Blend with first color so that the darkening of shadows is gradual.
c. Use a small brush to apply “Uzi” to the inner corner or opening of eyelid. Blend it upwards only until you reach the first couple lashes. If it begins to look like a straight line, you’ve gone too far! This should only be a small, somewhat subtle highlight.
d. Use an angled or slanted eyeliner brush to apply “Oil Slick” to the upper lash line. I’ve suggested a black shadow, as opposed to a true liner, because the effect will be softer and less dominant while still framing the eye. Complete the eyes with your fave mascara and black liner on the waterline.
Step 3 (The Skin): Conceal any minor imperfections and under-eye darkness. Apply medium-coverage foundation and set with a translucent powder.
Step 4 (The Cheeks): Next, use “Sweet as Cocoa” blush to softly contour the cheekbone and add a hint of color to the apples. As always, I recommend using a light hand when applying the product, and gradually work up to your desired intensity of color.
Step 5 (The Lips): By now, your lips should be nice and moisturized from the balm. Apply “Pink Me Up” all over the lip until you achieve your ideal shade of pink. And… voila! Your look is complete.
