We all know designer runways and top fashion magazines are great places to seek inspiration and get a first-hand look at the latest trends. But here at C+C, we’re more interested in seeing clothes and accessories worn the real way by real people! Every month or so, we select a particular reader whose sense of fashion sets him/her apart from the rest. “Muse” is meant to be a platform of great style and individuality, and will hopefully inspire other readers to continue looking their best and experimenting fearlessly with their own wardrobes!
NAME: Jessica Virgin
LOCATION: Houston, TX
OCCUPATION: Vintage fashion blogger/online vintage boutique owner
C+C: When did you first develop a love for vintage fashion, and what do you love most about vintage pieces?
Jessica: Ever since I was a little girl my grandmother would take me and my sisters shopping every weekend at Goodwill, Salvation Army and Sand Dollar! At first I didn’t get why do you want people’s old clothes? Then it came to me when I was like 7 that these clothes are amazing! And I’ve been hooked since then! What I love about vintage is that it’s unique and one-of-a-kind! No one will have what you’re wearing. I love the way it fits cause I’m very petite so all the clothes were made for me! It least that’s how I feel.
C+C: What looks and trends are on your radar for summer 2010?
Jessica: Vintage, crochet, clogs, neutrals and neons combined, slouchy sheer blouses and platforms.
C+C: Who are your top style icons? Who inspires you?
Jessica: Twiggy, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn, Tina Turner, Cher, Nico and the ladies on Soul Train. If it wasn’t for them and my grandmother paving the way for craziness and fashion, I don’t know what I would be doing.
C+C: How would you describe your personal style in five words?
Jessica: Craziness, vintage, virgin, unique, speechless and just ME.
C+C: If you could splurge on one designer item what would it be and why?
Jessica: That’s a hard one since I buy nothing over $2 but if I had to choose it would be that Alexander Wang “Diego studded duffle purse” in leopard print. I DIE every time I see it and when I see the price!
C+C: If we were to take a look in your clutch, what would we find?
Jessica: Keys with pepper spray (for the bums), vintage Gucci wallet, lots of loose change and dollars, MAC’s “Electric Fucshia” lip glass, post office receipts, pink Hello Kitty cellphone and Bubblicious Sour Citrus gum.
