Half a million copies of President Obama’s new children’s book hit bookstores today.
Publisher Random House told CNN that first daughters Sasha and Malia inspired Obama to pen Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters.
The manuscript, which was completed before Obama was inaugurated in 2009, is a “”a moving tribute to thirteen groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation—from the artistry of Georgia O’Keeffe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism of George Washington,” Random House said.
The cover features an illustration of his two daughters walking across a green lawn with their pet dog, Bo. Artist Loren Long illustrated the other images in the book.
Retail price for the new book is $17.99, and proceeds will be donated to a scholarship fund for children of fallen and disabled soldiers.
