Steal another man’s woman these days and you can pay a hefty price.
Former NBA player, Antoine Walker, is being sued for stealing another man’s fiancé. Kevin Jenkins is suing him for $5 million dollars; he claims that he caught his fiancée with Walker engaged in an intimate act and confronted him about it. Walker apparently laughed in his face, which caused him emotional distress.
Although it is not an explicit law, some states do allow for individuals to carry out legal action against people who are cheating with someone else’s spouse through “alienation of affection” lawsuits. Hawaii, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Dakota and Utah are states in which these lawsuits are permitted.
Jenkins claims that he became so upset about the breakup that he thought he was going to kill himself.
Whether or not Walker will pay up is questionable. The former NBA star is allegedly broke after he was arrested for bouncing $822,500 worth of checks to repay gambling debts to three casinos. He also lost his former fiancée, Evelyn Lozada, who is now dating Chad Ochocinco.
