A pair of lips are all you need to play the Queen of Soul in a movie.
In early January, Aretha Franklin announced through a phoner on the Wendy William show that a biopic film would be made about her life and suggested that actress Halle Berry might play the lead. However, the Sunday of the Golden Globes, Berry politely declined, claiming that she doesn’t have the vocal capability to act as Franklin in a biographical film.
“If I could carry a tune, I’d consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can’t do her justice,” Berry told E! News.
Franklin is still holding on. She wrote into the Wendy Williams Show on Monday to make an appeal to Berry.
“Many actors have portrayed vocalists by lip-synching to the artist’s original recordings,” Franklin wrote. Williams read the note aloud on her show.
Berry has yet to comment.
