Venus Williams withdrew from the Australian Open last week because of a hip injury he incurred during the second round of a tennis match. She now won’t be competing in the United States Fed Cup during the February 5-6 weekend.

Williams told the U.S. Captain Mary Joe Fernandez that could she be out the game for several weeks, the Assoicated Press reported.

“I mean, it’s super disappointing because this is just not how I envisioned my Australian Open being,” Williams told the New York Times after pulling out of last week’s competition.. “I’ve never had to retire from a Grand Slam, especially after working so hard to pull out the match the other day. Just hoping for some magic that I could recover. But I have peace of mind that I really gave more than my best out there.”
Her sister, Serena Williams, is also currently nursing a foot injury  that she incurred last summer that has also caused her to miss out on the Australian Open and the upcoming competition.
