The talented and beautiful Nia Long stars alongside Danny Glover, Evan Ross and Roger Guenveur Smith in the new film “Mooz-lum,” directed and written by Qasim Basir.

“Mooz-lum” purposely spelled and pronounced incorrectly is symbolic of the misunderstanding of the Islamic faith. Nia Long plays Safiyah, the mother of Tariq (Evan Ross) who struggles with the strict religious upbringings of his father. The story follows this young college student post 09/11 as he battles with finding his identity within the religion.

The movie’s official website states it hopes to create a grassroots marketing campaign for the success of the movie before its release. It is my hope the movie’s portrayal of Islam will open minds and dispel some of the awful stereotypes associated with the Islamic faith.
