In preparation for his new film, Friends With Benefits, singer-turned-actor Justin Timberlake hit The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Friends With Benefits is about two friends (Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis) who have been amazingly unlucky in love and are just too busy for a relationship, but decide to enter into a casual, no-strings-attached intimate relationship. Things go awry when, predictably, they begin to catch feelings.

While the premise of the film is certainly nothing new, many people find themselves in this type of arrangement everyday.

For many, friends with benefits works out just fine, allowing the parties to satisfy their need for companionship, sex, and attention without having to fully commit. However, for others, sleeping with a pal can ruin the friendship forever.

When asked about his thoughts on friends with benefits relationships, Timberlake (who is reportedly dating his FWB costar, Mila Kunis) said he doesn’t think it’s a good idea.

“If you’re going to be intimate with someone at some point somebody’s going to feel something,” Timberlake explained.

“It’s a really good idea until it becomes a bad idea. It probably becomes a bad idea really fast.”

While it’s true, friends with benefits relationships can be fraught with difficulty, they can also be perfectly good arrangements for those  involved.

But what do you think, Clutchettes and Gents? Is sex with a friend a good or bad idea?

Let’s talk about it!

  • Friend: a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
Sex with a friend is never without feelings. Think about the impulse that catapulted you to take an established platonic friendship to the next level.
With that said, as long as non-committal sex with a friend is accompanied by mutual understanding and respect- it’s never a bad idea. It can even make a friendship stronger if both parties are mature enough to realize the gain in the circumstance.
But, if we’re talking about willy-nilly-had-too-much-to-drink sex with a friend….well, that’s never a good idea, friend or not.

  • I think it’s a bad idea. Sex is a bonding experience and one person, if not both, will form feelings. If you know you can’t be in a relationship, then don’t open this can up if you want to keep a friend. If you don’t care that much about the friend, then do it…..

  • Yes!!!! A horrible idea!!! If you really cherish the friendship then you wouldn’t cross this line!
