Colombian beauty Sofia Vergara has just been announced as the newest face of COVERGIRL. The Modern Family actress’ newest role will place her alongside the likes of Halle Berry, Queen Latifah and many more.
Sofia shot her first advertising campaign for the brand last week and we will have to wait until January 2012 to see the results, but they will definitely be worth it. This comes just after her being named the newest spokesperson for Diet Pepsi’s new Skinny Can.
This newest announcement is a big step in the beauty industry and is a blossoming trend for Latinas with Jennifer Lopez garnering a L’Oréal Paris campaign as well as half-Latina and half African-American beauty Joan Smalls landing a campaign with Estée Lauder. This also signals a possible shift in the market towards using women of all ages as Sofia is 38 years old, making her much older than some of the young models who are the faces of most beauty brands today.
We love that COVERGIRL has decided to use a woman of color for its newest campaign and we hope that beauty brands continue to embrace diversity this year.
What do you think of Sofia’s newest role? Do you think beauty brands are starting to move in the right direction towards more diverse spokesmodels?
