And all the fans hollering “Venus Williams Back!”
After a five month hiatus, Venus Williams is kicking a** and taking names! Williams, who turned 31 last week, made a triumphant showing at Wimbledon today, taking down Uzbekistan’s Akgul Amanmuradova in straight sets this morning. Despite being ranked 33rd in the world, Williams is seeded 23rd in the tournament and will face Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm next.
Williams was forced to retire from the Australian Open this January following an injury to her hip flexor. It was the first time she has ever had to resign from a Grand Slam singles tournament.
Sister Serena, who is ranked 26 in the world and 7 at Wimbledon following her own 11-month absence following a foot injury, will take the court later in the series. Best of luck to them both.
