Venus and Serena Williams were eliminated in the fourth round of Wimbledon today. The tournament was Serena’s first Grand Slam appearance since the foot injury and subsequent blood clots that put her on the injured list in 2010, shortly after winning that year’s Wimbledon. Sister Venus, who was herself saddled by a hip injury for five months, lost in straight sets to Tsvetana Pironkova just a few hours after Serena’s defeat. Pironkova also defeated Venus in last year’s tournament.
While we’re sad to see the Williams sisters eliminated, they made an amazing showing for two players who have been off the court for such a long time. They may be down today, but don’t ever count these two out!
