First Lady of the U.S. Michelle Obama covers the October issue of Essence magazine. Dressed in a stunning fuschia gown, the FLOTUS anchors Essence’s “Power Issue” which highlights the most influential Black women in 2011.
In the cover article, Mrs. Obama talks candidly about her trip to Africa and her mission to fight for women and girls around the globe. Mrs. Obama is keenly aware that her presence on the world’s stage is important and wants to use her position to inspire young girls to work hard and achieve their dreams.
She tells Essence:
“My story to young people around this country and around the world is: Don’t look at me as the First Lady first; look at me as Michelle Obama, a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Because I was there, and this is attainable. There is no magic to this. It is hard work….”
The October issue of Essence magazine will hit newsstands September 12.
