While his partner Kimsha is making her name as a cast member of the new ‘Basketball Wives: LA’ reality series, Ron Artest will be getting some primetime shine of his own.

The Laker, soon to be known as Metta World Peace, announced that he would be part of the cast of the new season of ABC’s ‘Dancing With The Stars.’ The Associated Press reports:

ABC says the 13th season of the hit show will feature a mix of actors, athletes and TV personalities. Set to tango and quickstep with professional dance partners will be basketball star Ron Artest; World Cup soccer player Hope Solo; reality stars Robert Kardashian, Kristin Cavallari and Chaz Bono; TV personalities Nancy Grace, Carson Kressley and Ricki Lake; singer-actress Chynna Phillips; actors David Arquette and J.R. Martinez; and Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, who may be better known in the United States for being George Clooney’s ex-girlfriend.

The move is a smart one for Artest, who is out of work as the NBA’s lockout continues. Currently, there is no word on when the season could begin. Both the NBA and the player’s union are set to meet today in Manhattan to negotiate a deal that would get the regular season underway.  And what should happen if the season starts with Artest’s stint at DWTS still underway?  Speaking to press, Artest did not seem concerned:

“I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. If I thought the season was going to start on time, I probably would have not done the show.”

Most teams hold their Media Day on Oct 3rd with training camp beginning directly after. Both parties are holding this Labor Day weekend as an unofficial deadline to see if progress can be made. Among the major issues on the table is an eight percent cut in player’s salaries. The cut would essentially cap the share of revenues players make cutting it down from the current 57 percent that the league claims is an inordinate amount.

While the negotiators wrangle out a deal, at least we know the Artest household will be paying their bills. The first episode of DWTS will be September 19th, with the first elimination on September 20th.
