Well if this isn’t controvery I don’t know what is. Reports are saying that the estate for Mahalia Jackson is not feeling  Fantasia Barrino playing the role of the late gospel singer in a biopic due out in the fall of 2012 because she is having a child out of wedlock for the second time. “The family thinks if Fantasia plays the role, it’s going to sully the name of Mahalia.  They think she’s got the wrong image, having a child out of wedlock,” executive producer for the movie, Adrian Taylor, told the New York Post.

27-year-old Barrino is six months pregnant and the father of her child is her married boyfriend Antwaun Cook. This could be another reason Jackson’s estate is not comfortable with Barrino playing the great gospel singer. According to the Post, the producers of the movie have started to look for someone to replace her. They are upset because the R&B singer initially didn’t tell them about her pregnancy until she was four months along.  In the beginning, she told them that she was just putting on weight for the role.

Her pregnancy has caused major delays in the film’s schedule. Her due date is Dec 27. and she is expected to start shooting in Jan. 2012. Negotiations are currently taking place to allow Barrino to breast feed and nurture her baby boy while on the set. If she is unable to begin shooting so soon after giving birth, the producers will have to find a replacement. Producers have suggested Missy Elliot.

Do you think Fantasia should still be allowed to play the role? And do you agree with the concerns of the Jackson estate? Talk about it!

Fantasia is great in what she does, but not protraying the greatest gospel singer of all times. No justice to our queen of ‘gospel’.

I think that Fantasia should have the role. Those who think that she can’t act…..have you checked out her rendition of Celie on the Broadway production of the Color Purple. I have no words for how awesome her acting and singing was. Her music stirs my soul, like Whitney’s did, like Mahalias voice does. We have all fallen short-. who knows how many souls this movie may bring to Christ, including Fantasia(closer to God). I can’t wait to see this movie, because of Fantasia!

I am disappointed in Fantasia myself. However, from what I’ve read Queen is of another gender. So whom will it be, Fantasia whom have fallen from grace or Queen whom is another gender. Neither action is approved by God. I personally love them both. The point is this according to the Bible. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All is all so who can cast the first stone. I think Fantasia would do well portraying Mahalia. This might help her get her life on track again.
