Something to get your Friday night poppin’…

Brooklyn’s own Nitty Scott,  London’s Estelle, and Virginia’s Lady of once again proved that female emcees can rock with the best of them at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards.

Over the past few years, the Cyphers have become one of the most popular parts of the show, so much so that many have commented that BET should scrap the awards ceremony and just let emcees rhyme.

This year, Estelle proved she was more than just a singer, and proved she can rock a crowd, while Lady of Rage showed–once again–she’s a beast on the mic. Underground artist, Nitty Scott, demonstrated her skills and let the crowd know why she’s been making a name for herself in the New York rap scene.

Watch Nitty Scott, Estelle and Lady of Rage go head-to-head with the boys. Who was your favorite?

Lady of Rage, Blind Fury, Dom Kennedy, and Skillz

Nitty Scott, Lacrae, Soprano, and Estelle

I NEEDED to see this. Put me in a good mood despite my gray spirits today. NItty Scott was BAD( in the BEST possible way of course)! I already loved Estelle, but seeing her kill it in a dress thigh high heels in the cypher is just icing on the cake. I want to see more ladies doing this.

  • Cypher’s are a true testimony to real hip hop. I did NOT watch the awards b/c I knew I would be able to see the ciphers online. I was not disappointed. Shoutout to Blind Fury and all the ladies reppin!

Lady Of Rage still got it- and she’s the oldest person in the cipher (43 years old!!!!!)- and a Christian rapper shut it down! Damn Lecrae, didn’t know you had it in you!

Shout out to BET going worldwide this time with Estelle (England) and Soprano (France).

I’m glad the ladies represented, but too bad they didn’t bring it like Shady 2.0.
