In the latest issue of British Vogue, Rihanna lets her blunt honesty take control as she talks about her life and the expectations that people have for her. She told the high fashion magazine that she is in no way trying to be a role model and people shouldn’t expect her to be.

“See, people – especially white people – they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me and being a role model became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That’s it. Look, God doesn’t give any more than you can handle. I had to get through a lot of ups and downs – big downs – and a lot of trial and error to get where I am now.”

This age old argument about how much responsibility celebrities should take over how their behavior affects their fans, especially young fans, is one that can go on and on. Rihanna doesn’t want to be a role model, but the sad truth is that as soon as you are in the spot light impressionable minds will begin to admire and look up to you. It is something that comes with the territory of being a celebrity. Claiming that you don’t want the job isn’t going to stop your fans from making you their role model.

In the end it all comes down to if she will take those fans who do look at her as a role model into consideration or just continue living her life the way she wants to. We can obviously see which route she has decided to take.

Riri is completely manufactured. She’s sort of like a Japanese pop star in the regards that she is just pure entertainment..not to be taken a cartoon. It is more than obvious that she isn’t the brightest..”white people want me to be role model” she trying to ruin her career with one statement?

    • EssDot323

      That statement is career suicide.

Yeah, I have to agree. What person in general wants their child to look up to her? I’m getting annoyed with a lot of celebrities and this certain demeanor a lot of them are exhibiting.

Does any one find it sad that she has been lightened in the pictures so much to fit into this magazine. Rihanna is no this shade of ‘Brown’

All are you are so stupid, love Rihanna, and are clearly not teenagers, so shut up!
Ok first whether or not Rihanna likes or wants to be a role model, she is, it is the career she chose and it is her resposibilty. What if a police officer would stop puting their at risk to save people? What would happen to us? If they were just like Rihanna and said eff u it is my life and I never wanted to risk my life anyways. Do you think that police officers like to put their own life at risk? probably not with all that pressure but they because 1. they are getting paid and 2. they made a resposibilty to the people to rsik their life in order to save them. Risking their lives not only makes them money but at the end of the day they get to go home and know that they are good and responsible people and that they saved a life, they made the world a better place. You see from a bad comes an amazing thing. What if Rihanna’s body quit his job? What would happen? she would probably get hurt. Does he? no because 1. he is getting paid to protect her and 2. he made a responsibility to her to protect anything bad that happens to her would be his fault. What kind of pressure is he on, do you think that he likes it? probably not but at the end of the day he goes home knowing that she is safe and that he did his and is a responsible man. Rihanna does not poses that quality, she is irresponsible, I mean she is even getting paid to do be a role model, like if you sign up to be a janitor you should not be shocked when your boss hands you a broom and a mop, you might not like it but is your resposibilty and your job. Just like Rihanna’s job and responsibilty is to be a role model, she might not love but if she was a good role model at least she would go home and think that she made the world a better place but she is a bad person. DO NOT defend irresponbility, I mean it is so sad because she is even getting paid for it, she is not even going to be a good role model for money, DO NOT DEFEND HER!
Secondly, how dare you guys say that parents are not good parents, my parents raised me with the best morals. You are clearly not parents or teenagers so SHUT UP! I am a teenage girl and I know for a fact because I have seen it, I have lived it, you guys on the other hand have only watched it from a distance so DO NOT talk unless you have lived it, that you could raise your kid with the best morals but they could still end up screwed up, why? society, I do not blame Rihanna personally, I think that nowadays celebrities have to much of an influnce especially on kids because (and I know this) they turn to celebrities to look at what is “cool” and in style becuase thay are widely celebrated, they are everwhere, celebrities do not say that your parents are “cool” I know for a fact that parents are considred lame and you are going to get bullied and teased for having your parents morals ( I live it, you have no idea how much people bullied me just because I would say that “my parents said that I should not use bad words” or “my parents told me that I should never let someone take a picture of me naked” or just because I was always raised to do my homework and to go to church every Sunday and to be respectful, I tried to commit suicide 3 times, I had an eating disorder, I had self injury issues becuase of the bullying) why did these kids to these things to me ? becuase I was lame for looking up to my parents (a girl once pulled down my gym shorts becuase if I was so Catholic the way my parents taught me to be then I desrved it, I still remember what the girl said to me “Do you see any people being Catholic, anyone else in school or on t.v.? No? Society can really mess you up and make you question everything that you were raised to believe. I have some friends whose parents raised with the best values, yet they ended up preganant, in jail, drug dealers, prostitutes, etc. I look back at them and I can’t believe it, I grew up with these kids, they were my best friends, our parents raised us the same way, so why did they turn out like they did? society and I am not blaming Rihanna for anything but it is a fact that celebrities have a huge negative impact on teens today, I have lived it and currently I am still living it and it is only getting worse, you guys need to get a brain and help do something about this before it is too late. I highly doubt that Rihanna’s mom taught her to be the way she is to sing about sex, pose naked, get drunk on stage on her job, and to be irresponsible and if she did then yes she is a bad parent, I mean there are bad parents but most are not. So DO NOT blame parents blame society blame me but not parents becuase at the very least I owe them not balme them. Teengaers have not changed, we are still the same from the 60’s 90’s etc, what has changed is society. I mean do not get me wrong we have our faults, we are loud, obnoxius, irresposible, easily influnced, disrespectful, etc just like the past generations what has chaged is society, we need good influnces all over us to guide us to the right path, wheter it is our celeb role model, parents, or another family member, etc, EVERYONE has the responsibility to guide us because we are unknlowdgeful to know bad from right, we are. We are the next generation if we fail, whose fault is it? society.
