Helen Jennings, editor of ARISE Magazine which is fast becoming the bible for African fashion, culture and entertainment, just recently spoke with CNN’s Inside Africa series to detail her love for the fashion industry and her excitement about the ALL THINGS AFRICA epidemic that is currently sweeping across the globe.
She is also recently came out with an insightful book titled, New African Fashion which explores and celebrates the best the massive continent has to contribute to the fashion and beauty genre. Being an editor for a quarterly magazine that keeps up with the always evolving trends of fashion, music and culture, Jennings has the perfect view when it comes to scoping out the best in the business and exposing new talent.
She has had the pleasure of appreciating first hand the success of the younger crop of African designers like Duro Olowu, Jewel By Lisa and Kofi Ansah, who have made great strides and are fast becoming household names in an industry that thrives on exclusivity. It’s this new wave of African inspired creativity that compelled Jennings to embark on her journey of re-discovery by writing a love story that has a fairy tale ending. New African Fashion evokes the images of a cultural odyssey that successfully gave birth to a long lasting legacy that is rapidly expanding and producing influential offspring.
The ride so far has been enlightening for the British born Jennings, and she feels lucky to be in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that is helping to spread the word and share the wealth Africa has to offer. She hopes her new book will provide a comprehensive and delightful entrée into a world that she is constantly inspired by.
