The critics have spoken! The Help, the surprise hit movie of the summer, was given its due last night at the 17th annual Critics’ Choice Awards, and the talented cast received the ultimate honor with a Best acting ensemble win.

Viola Davis left the favorite of the night, Meryl Streep in the cold by winning the Best Actress award, and in a very poignant acceptance speech; she explained the significance of her win. “I consider it an honor to pay homage to these women who at that time period were not allowed to dream”.

A stunned Octavia Spencer collected her Best Supporting Actress trophy and made a cute reference to the fact that she was grateful her agents finally hooked her up with a movie that provided a decent paycheck.

All in all it was a magical night for the two exquisite actresses and the film that is helping them get the recognition they deserve.

I couldn’t possibly watch this movie-but I’m glad they’re continuing on with their careers.

I have been a fan of Viola since the movie Doubt. I loved her also in Tyler Perry’s Madea goes to jail. I am happy to see her on top of her game and being recognized for her talent among her peers. The same goes to Octavia. I hope both ladies win big at the Golden Globe Awards and at the Academy Awards.

  • Congrats to them.
