Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer continued their winning ways at Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. The two picked up trophies for Best Leading Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, for their outstanding portrayals of two maids in last summer’s blockbuster, The Help.
This gives them both a boost going into the Academy Awards, which takes place next month. The winners of the SAG Awards are usually an indicator of who’ll take home an Oscar, so Spencer and Davis may just take home another statue.
Octavia Spencer has already one a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award, and although she didn’t snag a Golden Globe, many believe Viola Davis is the front-runner for an Oscar.
During their acceptance speeches, the actors paid homage to the women who came before them and also encouraged everyone to “dream big and dream fierce.”
