The phrase “gone too far” just doesn’t have meaning anymore because no matter how many times folks say the “women who are or have been wives of some sort of man and like to argue” genre is tired, it continues to thrive. The latest offering from VH1 has the working title Hollywood Exes and premiere this summer. Hey, at least the network is being upfront about the women on the show not actually being wives this time.

The cast will include Nicole Murphy (ex-wife of Eddie Murphy – 13 years), Jessica Canseco (ex-wife of Jose Canseco – 4 years), Sheree Fletcher (ex-wife of Will Smith – 3 years), Mayte Garcia (ex-wife of Prince – 3 years), and Andrea Kelly (ex-wife of R. Kelly – 12 years).

According to VH1:

Hollywood ex-wives are part of an exclusive sorority whose members’ lives seem to mirror that of a modern day Cinderella fairytale. But all the fame and fortune of marrying a celebrity may seem fun and glamorous at first, but it often comes with a price tag. Living in the shadow of your very famous husband can take its toll on your psyche when feel you are second to his career.

These five women, who have all been friends for years and in some cases for as long as 20 years, want to show the world they are more than just a trophy wife with a pretty face. They want to establish themselves as independent, successful women and bring relevance and honor to themselves separate from their very famous exes…even if there is a little drama along the way.

“A little drama”? Stop lying.

While this show still has hopes for presenting these women as successful people making names for themselves without their ex-husbands, VH1 knows good and well that drama will take center stage. The sad part is, most of us probably read that there would be an ex-wives show, rolled our eyes, noticed who will be on it, and thought “hm…that does sound interesting, though.” I mean, the ex-wives of R. Kelly and Will Smith? I’m tired of women being viewed through their relationships with men but it’s hard to promise to look away.

Will you check for this one?

    *Sucks teeth*

When are we going to get some shows like this where men are the characters?

  • Joan

I’m not even going to lie. I’ll probably at least check out the first episode.

  • Penny

Of course, I’m going to check it out. LOL. And just like I did with The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Basketball Wives, when it starts to get a little too extra, I’ll stop watching. I have to admit that I have always been curious about Nicole, Mayte and Sheree. I’ve never heard any of them actually speak, so at least it will be something new. I’m also hoping that they show what Nicole eats and/or doesn’t eat and how she works out so that I can incorporate all of it into my routine. Her body is flawless.

  • Im obliged for the blog article. Thanks Again. Really Cool.
