Cropped, bustier style tops were a big hit on the spring 2012 runways of Versace, Emilio Pucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. As a former fashion star of the 1990s, the crop top has returned with a more modern, fashion forward flare.

Spring’s biggest shirt trend gives you a chance to show off your favorite body part beyond the beach.

Here are some things to consider when choosing a crop top:

Right Length for You.
Crop tops come in various shapes and lengths. If you love your tummy, look for a top that hits just above your belly button. If you are a little shy, look for a top that shows a little bit of skin below your belly button. Picking a length depends on how daring you want to be.

Not into showing your belly, but still want to give this trend a go? You can give the illusion of a crop top by wearing a sheer or lace cami underneath a cropped top.

Matching Crop Top Wisely.
Crop tops can look amazing or can look like a cheerleader outfit gone wrong. You want to pick and choose the pieces that will flatter your body and make the crop top shine.

A high waisted bottom paired with a crop top will limit the amount of skin you are showing. But, will look sophisticated and sexy at the same time. This pairing highlights the smallest portion of your waist to give you a girly hourglass figure.

On the Spring 2012 runways, crop tops were paired with flowing maxi skirts, midi length lady like skirts, and pencil skirts. Crop tops work well with jeans, skirts, and shorts.

If you are ready to show off some skin in a new, classy way, then cropped tops should find a way into your closet.

Would you wear a crop top?

  • I have tried this trend, but it is very important to keep in mind your body type and the way you’ll wear it. I have big boobs, so I like the versions that are longer in the front, but not so loose in the front. They are cropped, but still fitting if that makes sense. The ones that are shorter and loose look horrible on me!

  • Oh and I agree about wearing higher waisted bottoms…it does highlight the smallest areas of your waist and looks really good :-)

I have some crop tops that I’m saving up for when my stomach is less gut and flab and more washboard abs, but right now, I do not look good in a crop top lol. Also with bigger boobs, they can make you look extra fat.
