In the 20+ years since the cancellation of his once-popular late-night talk show, Arsenio Hall has made no secret of his desire to reprise the gig. But a return to top has been an uphill battle, as Hall has struggled to find his footing as a TV personality (he briefly hosted a reboot of the ’80s talent competition, Star Search) or a comedian (he’s consistently done stand-up since leaving the on-air spotlight).
Enter the recently concluded Celebrity Apprentice, where Arsenio Hall bested over a dozen other personalities, trying to return to the halcyon days of fame, to be crowned the winner. Now, it seems Hall’s star is finally rising again, as TMZ and several other outlets report that three TV networks — NBC, TBS, and CBS, reportedly — are interested in offering him a late-night slot.
Hall’s old show premiered on Fox in 1989 and ran till the mid-’90s. Hall’s engaging, barb-filled interview style was a big hit with viewers, and his musical guests, which were frequently R&B and early ’90s hip-hop acts, were cutting-edge. He provided a platform for a plethora of black celebs who were being neglected by the major network late-night talk shows.
