Muta’Ali Muhammad, grandson of Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis, is developing a documentary film based on their lives, their art, their activism, and their love for each other. Since this legendary couple is held in such great esteem in the black community, a film like this, produced by their grandson, would be an amazing treasure for us all.

The project, titled Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee, is in need of funding, and Muhammad has launched a Kickstarter page to raise the $50,000 necessary to complete the project. The video trailer accompanying the page is pretty amazing. Any contribution made to help this film reach fruition would be a sound investment. At the time of this writing, there were only 22 backers and $1,573 raised. Muhammad has just 38 remaining days to reach his goal. Visit the Kickstarter page to help.

Wow, he is a nice-looking man! *ahem* Anyway… I look up to Ossie and Ruby Dee and their marriage. They were/are strong, beautiful Black people and a great part of our entertainment history.

I personally would love to see the documentary come to fruition. I really wish I could help monetarily, but I’m kind of struggling to keep my OWN bills paid these days! Maybe when I get my check, I’ll send in $20-$30. It’s chump change, but it’s better than nothing.

If every reader of this site gave a dollar, he would have 50k. Don’t sweet not being able to give a huge amount. Like you said, something is better than nothing.

  • Whatever you send will make a difference. If all of Ossie and Ruby’s fans contributed $1.00 we could make the film and share it nationally and internationally. You support is appreciated!!

i hate how this question is going to come off but there isnt a round about or rosy way to ask. so i just have to say it…. after all these years Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis’ estate doesnt havent 50000 to help him out?? now i understand if he just wants to do it on his own…completely understandable but if not then… im just curious
