“If you need encouragement, praise, pats on the back from everybody, then you make everybody your judge.” — Fritz Perls

It’s easy to get caught up in the kind words of others. Despite claiming we don’t care what people think, when they say good things about us, we’re all over it. We bask in the compliments, we get a shot of self-esteem from being appreciated, and we love it when other folks love us back.

But there is a downside.

While there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the compliments and praises of others, allowing yourself to get completely caught up in the opinions of others will leave you feeling less than stellar. When their praise turns to criticisms and judgments, you may take their words harder than you should. Instead, focus on those you know genuinely have your back and whose opinion you value, and don’t put too much stock in what everyone else says about you.

Happy Tuesday!
