Long Box Braids

We know it looks like an ode to the ’90s Poetic Justice days, but you can thank Solange, Cynthia Bailey, and Kandi Burress for bringing back this style. If you really want to kick up the Bohemian flair this summer, this is the style to do it. These waist-length braids, which can be made really large or skinny, are a great look to last you throughout most of the season since they don’t require much maintenance other than a touch up in the front if you’re not protecting your edges at night. Speaking of protection, make sure your real hair isn’t being pulled too tightly around the edges to prevent breakage. There are lots of ways you can wear this look — a high ponytail, half up and half down, a low bun — it all depends on how creative you want to get.

Beware of the “tree braids”. Because more of your hair is left out you are more likely to end up with jacked up ends when you take them out. Personally I’m strongly considering box braids.

i am considering box braids or if i make my way to NYC soon I want havana braids

I can see myself doing a fishtail braid but no to the rest. A couple of years ago I was all about braids as a protective style, now because of the length of my hair I can’t fathom spending hours on putting them in and a day to take them out. Plus braids were never that protective to my hair to begin with.

  • I really want to revisit my 4th grade box braids this summer, but I HATE having to sit there while they do them, and taking them out is an even bigger pain.
