Summer’s here, which means it’s time to think about styles that let you go from poolside to date night without much hassle, and also protect your hair from frizz-inducing humidity and sweat. Braids have always been the go-to style for this season because of their low maintenance and protective qualities, and luckily we’ve moved beyond micros with new braided styles that offer more versatility and definitely “up” the cute factor. Check out these three styles we recommend.

This article has perfect timing. I was trying to figure out what to do with my hair and thanks to #1 Tree Braids, I know what to do. I had tree braids aka crochet braids in about 2 years ago and forgot that I loved it because it only took about 4 hours and lasted as long as I wanted. I’m thinking a tight curly weave, a la Solange, would meet my needs.

In high school, I used to have crochet braids (back in the late 90’s/ early 00’s) when people used to leave the knotted part/cornrow visible in the top. I don’t miss them. I think tree braids look much better, but I’m not a big fan of those, either.
