“Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
A Facebook friend of mine posted this quote on her timeline and it immediately spoke to me. Lately, I’ve been on a mission to figure out what I really want out of life so that I can run as fast as I can toward it.
Switching careers was only the beginning. While I’m significantly happier now that I’m doing what I love, it’s not the only thing that brings me joy.
Hearing my son’s laugh, seeing the world, and being around great people also puts a massive smile on my face. And while I’ve taken the first few steps to live my ideal life, like most people, fear sometimes keeps me from going all of the way.
Over the years we’ve been conditioned not to listen to our heart, to our intuition. We’ve been told that the little voice inside of us is wrong because it always talks about impractical things. But who told you that? What makes you wrong and those other people who live unconventional (yet happy) lives right?
The answers to what we crave and what we long for are already inside of us, we just have to listen.
As Coelho said, whatever is in our heart—those things that we truly love and enjoy and are important to us—is where we will find happiness, joy, and contentment.
