“A goal is an intellectual concept—can you see it? ‘Cuz if you can’t see it within you then you’re never going to accomplish it.” – Iyanla Vanzant’’

Not too long ago I had the opportunity to interview Iyanla Vanzant. When our interview was done, I snuck in a few questions for myself (can you blame me?). I asked Ms. Vanzant how can I overcome my fears, and run head-first into my really big, scary, goals.

Basically, she told me to own it. She said I had to deal with my fear (what’s causing it?) and know in my heart that whatever I wanted, I could accomplish it.

I walked away feeling inspired, but admittedly still a bit worried. How can I just cast my fears aside? How can I just KNOW that I’d make it, even amid all of my doubts?

I’m sure you can relate. How often have you set goals for yourself or dreamed of your ideal life only to be afraid to pursue it? It’s like your heart wants you to reach your goals, but your mind keeps holding you back.

Well, Clutchettes, what I know is we have to overcome our thoughts and realize that whatever we desire is within reach, we just need to commit to grabbing it.

Ms. Vanzant broke it down like this:

“What keeps us from achieving our heart’s desires is not anything outside of us, it’s the conflict inside.”

What’s at the root of our doubt? Do we think we’re not good enough or our dreams are unreasonable?

Once we deal with the underlying causes of our fear then we can run confidently toward our goals.

I don’t know about you, Clutchettes, but I’m ready to embrace my dreams head-on. Are you?

Happy Friday!

  • I sure am, with focus, determination, positive thinking and belief in oneself it can be done. We must also remember if we tried something and it didn’t work the first time that doesn’t mean to give up. Just try again but go harder next time.
