Rihanna is moving full steam ahead with her first foray into fashion design. The “Nobody’s Business” singer is penning a collection for British retailer, River Island, which will debut on March 5th, the brand announced.

In the meantime, Rihanna is embarking on her usual strategic promotional campaign, posing for Complex Magazine wearing a hoodie from her Rihanna for River Island collection (above) and preparing to debut the line at London Fashion Week.

About the impending London Fashion Week show, she said via Glamazons Blog:

“Launching at London Fashion Week is a dream come true for me. I have wanted to design my own collection for a long time and to present my collection for River Island alongside all of the other great design talent at LFW is a real privilege. I can’t wait to see the reaction from my fans and the fashion press!”

But will the clothes live up to the hype? Rihanna has already released behind-the-scenes photos from her ad campaign and worn one of her jumpsuits, and the reception has been lukewarm at best.

Some even wonder if Rihanna will join the canon of celebrities with clothing lines who capitalize on their fame and built-in fan base instead of nurturing and developing actual design talent.

At any rate, a show at London Fashion Week is a golden opportunity for any emerging designer and it will give Rihanna the chance to prove her critics wrong.

What do you think of Rihanna’s collection for River Island thus far, Clutchettes? Are you checking for her London Fashion Week debut?
