Remember that show you used to watch that got you all giddy about historically black colleges? Yes, “A Different World”. Today we remember Lou Meyers, the man who played Mr. Vernon Gaines’ in the hit sitcom. He passed at the age of 77.
According to TMZ, Myers was admitted to the Charleston Medical Center in West Virginia before he died from heart failure while he was in a coma. Myers reportedly dealt with a series of health issues as he aged, including a bout of pneumonia towards the end of last year.
Gaines will be consistently remembered for the tough love he dealt his collegiate companions on one of the most popular African-American sitcoms to play on television. Although he began his acting career on Broadway, Gaines was similarly typecast in roles of older men. He will surely be missed.
