After a firestorm of negative press surrounding DMX’s appearance on the season premiere episode, Iyanla Vanzant is moving on with her controversial series “Iyanla: Fix My Life” as scheduled. The next show will feature former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” castmate Sheree Whitfield as she struggles to rectify her relationship with her ex-husband, Bob. During the show, Iyanla is forced to play mediator as the two argue over everything from their children to taking responsibility.
The episode will also follow Sheree as she visits “Chateau Sheree,” the home she started building while on the popular Bravo show. Iyanla determines the unfinished mansion symbolizes incomplete elements of Sheree’s life. Sheree tells Iyanla: “I think it’s going to be beautiful when it’s done. I think it’s something that I did for my kids, for my family” and the life coach replies: “You have an incomplete home, an incomplete marriage… You can’t speak to your ex-husband. You all don’t get along.” Iyanla also visits Bob’s former training and playing grounds with the Atlanta Falcons.
While DMX was vocal about his dissatisfaction with Iyanla’s life coaching strategy, Bob felt the experience was helpful, saying:
All that’s been portrayed on tv between me and her has been just a whole lotta animosity, a whole lotta you know… hatred for each other. So the whole ‘Iyanla: Fix My Life’ thing was a chance at intervention… for an outsider to come in. And I will say it definitely a good experience. It was a good experience but Iyanla was hard! She was poking and prodding and getting down to the nitty gritty as to why. […] What you will see coming up… is an in-depth analysis of a relationship. And what you’ll see is the hope that two people can resolve differences and come to some common ground and move forward for the sake of the kids and the family. […] I don’t hold any animosity for my ex-wife and I think that this show was an attempt to help us move forward so that we can basically provide a stronger more supportive nature for the children.
It’s great to see the show had a positive outcome on the couple and hopefully, it will help restore Sheree’s image in the media. Though Sheree hasn’t appeared on this season of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” she was mentioned during Part One of the reunion when a viewer warned Porsha that once she grows older, she could lose her “trophy wife” status and her then-husband Kordell Stewart might leave her like Bob did Sheree. Clearly, many view Sheree’s failed marriage and alleged lack of financial security as a cautionary tale. Perhaps this episode of “Iyanla: Fix My Life” will bring Sheree some closure.
