The Metropolitan Museum of Arts Annual Costume Institute Gala, dubbed “The Oscars” of fashion, took place in New York City last night. The theme for the evening was “Punk: Chaos To Couture,” and it served as inspiration for a myriad of fascinating looks.
Designers, who walked in arm-and-arm with their muses, either fully embraced the punk look, interpreted it in a refined way or eschewed it for an entirely different aesthetic altogether. We loved looks that celebrated punk street style (Kerry Washington) and others that mixed it with 70s sensibilities (Solange Knowles).
Although the fashion was exciting, we were just as thrilled with the makeup and hair on the red carpet. And where some of the gowns fell short on fitting the punk theme, the makeup and hair picked up their slack. More than a few attendees dyed and chopped their hair as part of their look (Nicole Richie and Anne Hathaway are examples) and others created bold makeup looks.
