Prepare Yourself For Kanye Overload

Some people have referred to Kanye West as being a genius.  Others have used words like asshole, crazy, confused or misunderstood. Either way, all of those terms are purely subjective.  What isn’t subjective, is the fact that Kanye is an entertainer, who knows how to generate a buzz.

During the season finale of  “Saturday Night Live”Kanye West debuted his loud and harsh track called “Black Skinhead”. There was screaming, frantic drums, and images of dogs and various slogans on a scream.

So provocative.

Just in case you couldn’t make out what he was saying, here are the lyrics:

[Verse 1]
For my theme song
My leather black jeans on
My by any means on
Pardon I’m gettin’ my scream on
Enter the kingdom
But watch who you bring home
They see a black man with a white woman
At the top floor they gone come to kill King Kong
Middle America packed in
Came to see me in my black skin
My homey was number one draft pick
They still burned his jersey in Akron
If I don’t get ran out by Catholics
Here come some conservative Baptists
Sayin’ he overreactin’
Like them black kids in Chiraq bitch

[Hook 1]
Four in the morning, and I’m zonin’
They say I’m possessed, it’s an omen
I keep it 300, like the Romans
300 bitches, where’s the Trojans?
Picture me livin’ in the moment
And I’ve been a menace for the longest
Picture me livin’ in the moment
Picture me livin’ in the moment

So follow me up cause this shit’s about to go down
I’m doin’ 500, I’m outta control now
But there’s nowhere to go, now
And there’s no way to slow down
Runnin’ out of time – moving fast
So just close your eyes and then enjoy this crash

[Hook 2]
Four in the mornin’, and I’m zonin’
Think I’m possessed, it’s an omen
I keep it 300, like the Romans
300 bitches, where’s the Trojans?
Baby we livin’ in the moment
I’ve been a menace for the longest
But I ain’t finished, I’m devoted
And you know it, and you know it

[Verse 2]
Stop all that goon shit
Early morning cartoon shit
This is goon shit
Fuck up your whole afternoon shit
I’m aware I’m a wolf
Soon as the moon hit
I’m aware I’m a king
Back out the tomb bitch
Black out the room bitch
Stop all that goon shit
These niggas ain’t doin’ shit
These niggas ain’t doin’ shit
What do you say to a masked man
This Inglourious Bastard that’s rappin’
We might have to burn this whole suit down,
Like the theater that Hitler was trapped in

[Hook 3]
Four in the mornin’, and I’m zonin’
Think I’m possessed, it’s an omen
300 girls, and we’re throwin’
300 girls, and they’re zonin’
Baby we’re livin’ in the moment
Baby we’re livin’ in the moment
[?] keep it goin’
Keep it goin’, keep it goin’

For the record, the “n” word was dropped on live television.  Of course Twitter reacted to the song, some favorably, but other’s not so much:

For his second performance, Kanye ranted and raved again, on his “New Slave” song.  It was pretty much a continuation of “Black Skinhead”:

[Verse 1]
My momma was raised in an era when
Clean water was only served to the fairer skin
Doing clothes you would have thought I had help
But they wasn’t satisfied unless I picked the cotton myself
You see its broke nigga racism
That’s that “Don’t touch anything in the store”
And this rich nigga racism
That’s that “Come here, please buy more”
What you want, a Bentley? Fur coat? A diamond chain?
All you blacks want all the same things
Used to only be niggas now everybody playin
Spending everything on Alexander Wang
New Slaves

[Bridge x2]
You see it’s leaders and there’s followers
But I’d rather be a dick than a swallower

[Verse 2]
I throw these Maybach keys
I wear my heart on the sleeve
I know that we the new slaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I know that we the new slaves
I see the blood on the leaves
They throwing hate at me
Want me to stay at ease
Fuck you and your corporation
Y’all niggas can’t control me
I know that we the new slaves
I know that we the new slaves
I’m about to wild the fuck out
I’m going Bobby Boucher
I know that pussy ain’t free
You niggas pussy, ain’t me
Y’all throwing contracts at me
You know that niggas can’t read
Throw ’em some Maybach keys
Fuck it, c’est la vie
I know that we the new slaves
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with me
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with Ye
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with Ye
I’ll move my family out the country
So you can’t see where I stay
So go and grab the reporters
So I can smash their recorders
See they’ll confuse us with some bullshit
Like the New World Order
Meanwhile the DEA
Teamed up with the CCA
They tryna lock niggas up
They tryna make new slaves
See that’s that private owned prison
Get your piece today
They prolly all in the Hamptons
Braggin’ ’bout their maid
Fuck you and your Hampton house
I’ll fuck your Hampton spouse
Came on her Hampton blouse
And in her Hampton mouth
Y’all ’bout to turn shit up
I’m ’bout to tear shit down
I’m ’bout to air shit out
Now what the fuck they gon’ say now?

[Outro: Frank Ocean]
I can’t get too high, get too high then
So long, so long, so long
Cannot find faith, [?] baby
I can’t do it
I can’t [?] another love and
I won’t believe in the [?]
Think you can’t get too high, get too high
Too high again
Too high

Consumerism and capitalism.

What Kanye fails to realize is that not only is he a product of consumerism, he contributes to it. How many times have we heard him brag about his designer clothes, his cars, the number of watches he owns, being a “n” word in Paris and the list goes on.  Then there’s the sneakers. When a new pair is released, people will make a bee-line for the closest sneaker store to wait overnight. Kanye West is the iPhone of music. Whether he likes it or not.  So for him to talk about consumerism and how people are “slaves” is so contradictory.

But, this is only my own opinion.

To others, Kanye is a genius.

To me, he’s a brand. Just like everything he sung about in that song. He knows he’s part of the problem and it’s eating him.   Or he just knows the music he makes will sell like hotcakes. Being a victim and a victimizer must be hard work.

So prepare yourself for Kanye overload, come June 18th, Yeezus will be released and it will be consumed.

  • Kanye would probabluy get on Iyanla’s show and act a fool. He has thoroughly convinced himself that he is the victim here. He doesn’t see how his actions paint him as a waste of intellectual space. Quite frankly, I’m over his rantings and have been for some time now. He cannot preach to me about consumerism/capitalism on one hand while he proudly flaunts his wealth. I’m not buying it. he can’t holler to me about racism while he’s flaunting a white woman on his arm. I need him to have a sat and think about how he’s going to deal with the psyche of the child he is set to raise with his woman. she wants to raise the child “colorblind” while he’s hollering about new slaves…poor kid.

Kanye West is a conflicted blackman, as is expected. Blackmen have issues, that’s understood. Kanye was pro-black when he hit the scene, now he’s a meal-ticket for Kim K and Kris Jenner. His rants about consumerism are cover for the real issue. How can a blackman claim to love black folk while advancing white female priviledge at the same time? His racial critiques ring hollow at this point. Kanye is a talented brotha, he knows better. He can’t be in bed with Wall Street and The Streets at the same time. It’s gettin’ dicey for blackmen at this juncture in our history, we can’t afford more Kanyes in popular culture, the stakes are too high.
