It’s a good time for music, Clutchettes. While Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu have us singing about being “Q.U.E.E.N.(s),” Lauryn Hill is back with her first new music in years.

Her new track, “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” was borne out of a deal with Sony Records to release a predetermined number of songs by a set deadline in exchange for a million dollars to pay off her widely-reported tax debt and evade a jail sentence. The song is now on iTunes and is already creating buzz. Lauryn Hill’s flow on the track could easily put most of today’s rappers to shame.

I love it. Yeah, the hook is not that great, but the message is all L Boogie. But I am a bit conflicted that this was a “compulsory mix,” and that the very structures she sings against are forcing her hand here. It’s somewhat tragic, but the music beautiful.

Sista Lauryn always have had singing talent. Also, her hair is beautiful. She have always been proud of and rocked her natural hair :)

  • I love the song. It’s true to form. It’s neurotic just as advertised but consistent IMO of Lauryn Hill perhaps under duress but L-Boogie none the less.
