Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have been embroiled in conflict since the start of the current season of “American Idol.” Their battle has played out in the press with accusations flying from both sides and producers adding fuel to the flame in hopes of increasing ratings.
Mariah’s husband, Nick Cannon, spoke on the conflict to KTLA News in Los Angeles, shedding new light on Mariah’s point-of-view on the ordeal via Necole Bitchie:
On Mariah Warning the Producers That She & Nicki Might Have Drama:
The amazing thing is that my wife, foreseeing all of this, tried to tell the network. She said, ‘I don’t think this is going to work, I’m afraid.’” She said, “I don’t need this. I’m doing this for the brand of ‘American Idol,’” which she has been a fan of and [she] loves the show, but [they’re] kind of gonna take this in the wrong direction like one of those reality shows. She’s said, “’I didn’t sign up to be on “Love & Hip Hop.”
On Whether Or Not He Thinks The Producers Are Adding Fuel to the Fire:
That’s the thing. My wife has been taking the high road, trying her best to just take it, but it feels like the producers and everybody else wants to just play into the sound bites and stuff like that. It’s unfortunate.”
On If He Thinks Mariah Will Do “American Idol” Again:
She just released a single today that is all of the place called “#Beautiful.” She’s so focused on her music and what she really loves to do, and that’s why she did “American Idol” in the first place. Like, “Oh, I’m a lover of singers and music,” so, it’s a time where she has so many amazing things going on in her life. If there’s something unstable…if they get it stable, she might relook, but nobody wants to be apart of anything that’s unstable.
Mariah’s comparison of “American Idol” most likely speaks to the fact that both sets of producers are stirring up drama to draw viewers. However, some see her comments as racially-based since Nicki Minaj is black and “Love and Hip Hop” follows mostly black female castmates.
