Attending the prestigious Harvard College is commendable enough, but recent graduate Ethel “Ellie” Hylton went even further in her pursuit of academic excellence.

The sociology major, who graduated Summa Cum Laude in May, won the Sophia Freund prize for achieving the highest overall GPA in her graduating class.

Alongside her excellent work in the classroom, Hylton was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society last fall and even made time to excel as a varsity athlete.

Hylton, whose parents graduated from Harvard Magna Cum Laude in 1982, will go on to work as a public policy research associate.

Clutch is proud of Ellie’s extraordinary accomplishment. Please join us in congratulating her!

Kudos to this young lady. But I have to say, Sociology at Harvard–she was probably the only one in that department. It’s not a popular undergraduate major at a school like Harvard. I’m sure she had personalized, hands on attention from the professors.

Yeah, that’s not true. There are PLENTY of Sociology majors at Harvard. I had several friends who were in the Sociology department and no, they were not lonely…now if you want to talk lonely, try talking to perhaps the Sanskirt and Indian Studies majors, or the Visual and Environmental Studies majors, but even they weren’t alone…there are some doozies in terms of what you can focus on but it’s all good. A lot of those people are doctors and lawyers and bankers now…
