If you were expecting a new Beyoncé album anytime soon, you may have to wait a little longer.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, songs from  top songwriters  like The-Dream, Diplo, Sia and Diane Warren (faints) didn’t make the cut, and Beyoncé is starting from square one. She is “still trying to figure out” a direction for the record, Ne-Yo said in June, while she travels the world with her Mrs Carter tour.

From The Guardian:

This report follows Diplo’s remark earlier this month, that one of his songs had been dropped from the LP. The Major Lazer producer had previously worked on Beyoncé’s Run the World (Girls) single, and allegedly brought the singer and Sleigh Bells together in the studio.

Sources tell the Reporter that Columbia hoped to have Beyoncé’s album finished before her eight-month tour begins, allowing the massive concerts to help promote her new music. So far, the singer has only performed two 2013 tunes at her gigs – Standing on the Sun, once, in Antwerp, and Grown Woman, a song that was introduced in ads for Pepsi and H&M. Other fresh material, such as the bizarre internet-only Bow Down/I Been On, is in a stockpile of what Jay-Z described as “100,000 amazing songs”.

Apparently label executives are not only worried about the release date, they’re also worried about Beyoncé’s pulling power. While she remains a major force in live shows, she hasn’t had a bona fide hit in four years. The 31-year-old’s last album sold 1.4m copies in the US – her lowest-ever sales. In the UK, it ranked 18th in annual sales, below releases by CeeLo Green and Ed Sheeran.

I always said I’d love to hear Beyoncé sing a Diane Warren song, especially after the first Warren penned song, “I Was Here”. It’ll be interesting to see what makes the cut the second time around.

Gone are the days when people like a Stevie Wonder would go away, get inspired and come back between a few years with an album like “Songs in the Key”…Now, all you have to do is press the sample button and you have an entire album in one week. No inspiration and no imagination. Bow Down B’s? Really Ms Knowles. Glad you rethought releasing that jibberish.

I loved Dangerously In Love, and I could listen to B’Day straight through. Those were GREAT albums. I didn’t love the I Am… Sasha Fierce album, but I respected it because she took a lot of chances vocally on that album that impressed me, and she had some tracks I truly enjoyed, like “If I Were A Boy” and “Sweet Dreams”.

But 4 was… meh. Don’t get me wrong: there were some good songs on there. But I’ve heard mixtapes by other artists that sounded more impressive than Beyonce’s 4 album. In fact, that album should’ve been a mixtape (I feel the same way about Rihanna’s Unapologetic album). Now, when I say mixtape, many people get offended. But then I’m like… Drake’s career started from mixtapes that sounded like albums. And so did Frank Ocean! And The Weeknd! And Jhene Aiko! (If you don’t know who Jhene is, google her. Your mind will be blown.) Mixtapes are just a way for artists to express themselves freely and creatively without the confines of copyrights and royalties and such. Solidified artists go back do mixtapes all the time: T.I., Rick Ross, Fabolous, Chrisette Michele, Miguel, etc. These artists may not be as “big” as Bey, but that’s what makes them more relatable, and it keeps the fans satisfied.

Beyonce is such a fortress with… well, everything… that when she does give a little bit, the stans go crazy like starved gorillas being given a banana. What she gives doesn’t even have to be quality; her stans will take anything. And maybe that’s the problem. No one’s challenging her. And if they are, they’re walking on eggshells with it. Where’s her “no” men? Who’s keeping it real? Her mom? Jay? Solange? Kelly? Who? Because if no one’s pushing her to become a better artist by going back to the core of who she is instead of chasing “record-breaking moments”, her sales will continue to decline.
