Maxwell and Alicia Keys created musical magic with “Fire We Make,” and fortunately for fans, there’s more where that came from. The duo has plans to release a duet EP in the near future, according to Maxwell who recently headlined the first night of Essence Music Festival. He told Billboard, “We’re definitely working on an EP that’s sort of Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell.” How exciting!

Maxwell expounded about their sonic chemistry: “We got a thing musically. That’s like my little sister. What’s funny is Swizz [Beatz] is the champion of all of it… She’s someone that I trust. I’m like that, by the way. Most of the people you see working for me are actually with me. And I’m proud to say that I’ve known them 20 years almost.”

Fans are eager to see how their dynamic will translate on record. Are you checking for a duet album from the two stars, Clutchettes?

Mmmmmm, yeeeessss! I’m ready for this! I just hope Maxwell is buckling down and being serious about it. He’s said before there would be an album and went back on his word. I didn’t mind in the past because it was just him, but he’s working with another person, namely a friend, and for some it can get ugly if the other person isn’t as hunkered down. Nonetheless, I’m ready to hear the end result!

Yes, I would. I am glad to see Keys returning to her more natural sound. “Girl on Fire” was a nice song but not for her.

I think the Girl on Fire would’ve been irritating no matter who sang it…that caterwalling (sp) was like nails on a chalk board. I’ll give their new music a listen cause I do like both vocally. Let Maxwell hit the high notes tho’
