Missouri Fair Obama Mask.JPEG-04873

Some clown thought it was a good idea to appear as President Obama during the Missouri State Fair rodeo this weekend. Then another clown, masquerading as the announcer, thought it was an even better idea to ask spectators if they wanted to see “Obama run down by a bull.”

But the state’s second highest  ranking official didn’t find the antics amusing.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder denounced the performance in a tweet Sunday. He said it was “disrespectful” to the president. “We are better than this,” the Republican tweeted.

State Fair officials said the show in Sedalia was “inappropriate” and “does not reflect the opinions or standards” of the fair. “We strive to be a family friendly event and regret that Saturday’s rodeo badly missed that mark,” they said in a statement Sunday.

One spectator said once the clown came out, everybody was in an uproar screaming with excitement.

“It was at that point I began to feel a sense of fear. It was that level of enthusiasm,” Perry Beam, 48, a musician from Higginsville, said Sunday, referring to the reaction from the crowd that filled the fair’s grandstand.

“. . . They bring out what looks like a dummy. The announcer says ‘Here’s our Obama dummy, or our dummy of Obama. They mentioned the president’s name, I don’t know, 100 times. It was sickening. This isn’t the Republican Missouri State Fair,” Beam said. “It was cruel. It was disturbing. I’m still sick to my stomach over it. … I’m standing here with a mixed-race family. My wife’s from Taiwan, and so was the student (his family was hosting). I’ve never seen anything so blatantly racist in my life.

“If an old country boy picks up on something like that, imagine what a person of color would think.”

Where’s a bull and its horns when you need it?

I’m not surprised this happened. I’m also not surprised that the republican lt. gov. condemned them. If republicans really want a chance with minorities (or with the moderate white voters who view the party as being racist and also won’t vote for them), then they need to be the ones condemning this behavior loudly, otherwise they continue to look like the party of rich old white men.

with this country history with people of color…native Americans, Asians(Japanese) Mexicans, and of course African Americans…with President Obama this country WILL ALWAYS show its true colors…Missouri is not surprising

I just heard on local media that the rodeo clown was fired and that the was performing an unauthorized act. I don’t buy this because the announcer, who is superintendent of the Boonville, MO school system, announced the whole affair. If was that surprising and shocking, why did he gleefully go along with the stunt?

I “like” ( and when I say “like”, I mean “I find it absolutely hypothcritical) how republicans state that liberals are being too over-dramatic in reaction, whenever someone says/does something disrespectful towards the President Obama.
And they refuse to acknowledge the incident where Natalie Maines of The Dixie Chicks had made the statement about George W. Bush and their reactions about that statement.

  • Not surprised, again another case of people showing who they are the first time. I bet these would probably be the same group of people cheering and smiling at a lynching.
