Dear Switzerland, Oprah Winfrey is sorry that her story about not being able to buy a $35k designer bag while received so much coverage. According to the Associated Press, Winfrey didn’t realize that a media frenzy would erupt after experiencing racism on her recent trip.

“I think that incident in Switzerland was just an incident in Switzerland. I’m really sorry that it got blown up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I’m sorry that I said it was Switzerland,” Winfrey said

“I was just referencing it as an example of being in a place where people don’t expect that you would be able to be there,” she continued.

Although Swiss tourism apologized for the incident, Winfrey doesn’t feel that an apology was needed.

“It’s not an indictment against the country or even that store,” she continued. “It was just one person who didn’t want to offer me the opportunity to see the bag. So no apologies necessary from the country of Switzerland. If somebody makes a mistake in the United States do we apologize in front of the whole country? No!”

I think that Oprah is doing the same thing the store clerk Is doing -absolving herself of any liability. She’s playing their game, she knows her name and word carry weight and the power both hold ,but she also knows she’s fair game for lawsuits so its smart for her to feign innocence and naïveté ,just as the store clerk is doing. You can only defend yourself against your enemy when you know his/her tactics and use it against them

  • Someone needs to give Oprah the “I’ am sorry but not sorry…” poem. She should not be apologizing I get that she is only doing it in part because she doesn’t want to stereotype the store or the country or alienate her audience but the ONLY reason why the country and the store is saying something because it is Oprah, if this was an average incident do you think the whole country would be giving an apology…no. If you are going to say something stand by it, even if you don’t like the heat or the attention, especially if you were right in your speech.
