How far would you go to find a home? Or a family that truly loves you?
After Davion Navar Henry Only heard a saying about God helping those who help themselves he mustered up the courage to head into St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida to ask if a family would adopt him.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that the incident occurred after the church pastor began speaking about orphans. He had described a rising epidemic: an “alarming numbers of African-American children who need us.”
Only, who was accompanied by his case worker, was then introduced by the pastor to the congregation and said:
”My name is Davion and I’ve been in foster care since I was born … I know God hasn’t given up on me. So I’m not giving up either.”
The straight-A 10th grade student was originally born in jail and has been in foster care throughout his entire life. Over the course of his childhood, Only managed his temper and began seeking a life on the right path. After Only shared his story, two couples asked about him. At publication time, Only has yet to be officially adopted.
