From “Django Unchained” to “12 Years a Slave,” slave movies are trending in Hollywood and not everyone is happy about it. Nick Cannon went on Twitter to complain about the growing popularity of slave films, saying:

“If I see another damn Slave Movie…AARRRGGHHHH!!!!! I think they keep making them because they want to keep Black Folks on edge! They don’t want us to get to comfortable! Yeah we know about Obama…But don’t forget about Toby!”

He also posted a picture of his great great grandmother, adding:

“They called this lady a slave, I call her my Grandmothers Grandmother. Why don’t they make movies about our African Kings & Queens? #OurHistory I would love to see a film about Akhenaton and his beautiful wife Queen Nefertiti! Or Cetewayo, a King who was a war hero. Im about to drive to my office RIGHT NOW and start the development! New Hollywood Trend, Black King and Queen films! Starring Black People!! #NoDisrespectToElizabethTaylor

He joins a chorus of critics about the recent abundance of slave films; in fact, some people voiced they didn’t go see “12 years a Slave” for that very reason.

Why do you believe people are rejecting slavery films? Is it shame? Have too many been produced in recent years? What are your thoughts?

I agree with Nick why can they’ll be movies about Black businessmen, leaders, teachers or even a black superhero(and I don’t mean Blankman which was wack)While The Butler did have the same stereotypes which i also don’t like at least they showed Obama getting elected which show the CIvil Rights movement was a progress.Slavery was not a progress until the CIvil War can and Lincoln signed the Emancipation which I thought Abraham Lincoln would end with the subject.Hell even the other one Vampire hunter even told the truth Slave owners were vampires at heart why else would they consider slaves as animals than human

Funny,we know about Obama. And his white family that paid for everything he ate and educated him, unlike his black side that abandoned him. Our president is BIRACIAL. We’ve not had a black president. Ask Morgan. Freeman.
