Just in time for Valentine’s Day, British soul singer Marsha Ambrosius released the first effort from her upcoming album “Friends & Lovers,” a hip-hop influenced remake of Sade’s classic tune, “Love Is Stronger Than Pride.”

This bass-heavy rendition is faster than Sade’s plaintive and sparse original and samples Jeru the Damaja’s  hit “Come Clean.” Ambrosius produced the track, which blends her love of both rap and R&B.

In my mind, only a few people can successfully cover Sade. Lalah Hathaway is one (her “Cherish the Day” remake is perfection), but is Marsha Ambrosius another?

What do you think of Marsha Ambrosius’ “Stronger than Pride” remake, Clutchettes? Love it or leave it alone?
