An argument that started on Facebook between Jacksonville, Fla., two friends – one who was six months pregnant – has ended with a shooting death of an unborn baby.
The pregnant woman, 23-year-old Markeisha Brooks, went to 35-year-old Virginia Wyche’s home Wednesday to discuss a disagreement from Tuesday night. The dispute turned physical, and Wyche shot Brooks.
“They were arguing out front, something about Facebook. I walked out and just heard a pop,” says witness Christopher Cash to WAWS.
Lillian Jordan, Wyche’s mother, says she’s confused about the shooting.
“My son called me and I was very disturbed about this because this is not the way I was raised, and they [were] not raised like this,” Jordan says. “Somebody had to provoke my child.”
Police arrested Wyche and charged her with attempted murder, but they wanted to determine if the shooting was out of self-defense.
“We’re going to interview the suspect and see what the situation is and see what we have. Not jumping to any conclusions at this point,” says Sgt. Paul. “We know she was here, she was involved in the shooting, but the circumstances, we don’t know at this time.
Wyche appeared in court on Thursday and was held on $1M bond.
Brooks was taken to UF Health Jacksonville where she lost the baby.
