On April 16, over 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were abducted from their school in Chibok, Nigeria. Many believed that Boko Haram was behind the kidnappings, and now today, the group has confirmed.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has vowed to sell the schoolgirls that were kidnapped. Shekau made the comments in a taped video message in which he also claimed responsibility for the mass abduction.

Although there is no way of telling if the video was made recently, Shekau says:

“I abducted a girl at a Western education school and you are disturbed. I said Western education should end. Western education should end. Girls, you should go and get married,” he said.

“I will repeat this: Western education should fold up. I abducted your girls.” “I will sell them in the market, by Allah,” Shekau said, claiming his group was holding the girls as “slaves”.

“I will marry off a woman at the age of 12. I will marry off a girl at the age of nine,” he said elsewhere in the video.

Unconfirmed reports from local leaders in Chibok suggested that the girls had been taken across Nigeria’s borders with Chad and Cameroon and sold as brides for as little as $12.

This is horrible, Where are the satellite images that display heat signatures of the girls? Where are the parents of these girls? Why is Mrs Jonathan arresting the protest leader? How does a non-elected one have the power to arrest anyone? Where is the amber alerts? Why is little or nothing being done?

I guess now the First Lady of Nigeria has her proof that these children were actually kidnapped, so instead of having protesters arrested for making this whole thing up she can encourage her useless husband to take some meaningful action besides blaming the childrens’ parents. Already there are girls that will never be recovered because Nigeria and the international committee have done so little.

#Bring Back Our Girls is brilliant. There is nothing like public embarrassment to make a government do the right thing. I believe the parents of those daughters will get some positive results, at least some of them will for sure.
