050514 Ashley Ebony and Misty

Professional ballerinas Ashley Murphy, Ebony Williams, and Misty Copeland prove that brown girls can pas, pirouette, and plie as they give us muscle and grace on the June/July cover of the ballet publication Pointe Magazine.

And with the recent launch of Project Plie – a joint collaboration between Copeland and The American Ballet Theatre to increase our presence in ballet – it’s safe to say this is only the beginning.

Michaela Prince should have been on that cover as well. She is amazing.

  • Mary Burrell

Michaela Prince is another ballerina that is just awesome, this young lady has overcome many obstacles in her young life. Having the skin disorder vitiligo and being orphaned in Sierra Leone because of her skin disease. Many should google her and read her story. She is truly amazing.

    • Thank you so much for telling me about Michaela Prince. She never gave up on her dream despite the naysayers. Her inspiring, stirring story represents the strength of a black Sister. Black women are strong. Human beings should learn about her story as a means for people to not only become educated on the beauty of ballet. People can be further appreciative of the resiliency of the human spirit. She is a great person.
