arsenio-hall-the-arsenio-hall-show-synd-325CBS Television Distribution has canceled The Arsenio Hall Show after one season because of low ratings, the Associated Press reports.

Mind you, just a few months ago, former late-night talk show host Jay Leno made a special guest appearance on Hall to announce its second season renewal.

So what in the world happened?

Well CBS knew the chances of television stations moving the talk show to a lesser time slot as ratings continued to fall against other programs like ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel.

In a statement, Hall says he knew launching the show would be a challenge.

“I’m gratified for the year we’ve had and proud of the show we created,” he says.

A show spokesperson says Hall is currently in reruns and won’t resume production. The last new episode aired May 21.

The cancellation of Hall’s show returns the late-night talk show scene to mainly white male hosts, with a few exceptions such as Tavis Smiley on PBS.

The show was not very interesting or entertaining. I would like to see black artists/actors promoted in a fun, upbeat way. His show just didn’t do it. I tried watching, but I kept losing interest. I know he had a lot of fans back in the 90s, but times have changed. And I like Jimmy Fallon, even if he is white :)

Exactly. What contributed most to the success of his original show was the fact that it featured guests, many of whom would rarely if ever be featured on the major network talk shows. Now, such guests can not only be seen on those types of shows but in dozens of other places as well. That show also had a cool and modern vibe for its time which was quite a contrast from Leno and Letterman. The new show, compared to the likes of Kimmel and Fallon, actually seemed rather dated. His original show was revolutionary at the time. The current one is quite the opposite.
And I love Fallon’s show too:)

It’s like that song “The Times Are Changing” Unfortunately Arsenio and his team didn’t get the memo, what worked twenty years ago, won’t work for 2014.

The whole vibe of his show was like 1992. The joke writing was also very poor. I guess the one really good episode was when Prince was the guest.

He waited too long to return to television. The writing was awful, too.

Aw, too bad….:-D it seems like black women are really taking over television nowadays, black men, not so much.
